Basic Research in Social Sciences

Abstract

Social science research focuses on generating fundamental understanding of how social dynamics unfold, taking into account individual-level biophysiological factors contributing to social interaction (e.g., genetics, health, cognition, perception), group processes (e.g., interpersonal forces that determine influence, power, conformity), and the impacts of social institutions (e.g., economic processes, legal/governance structures, religious/belief systems, kin networks), with attention to the interconnections among these levels of analyses, and to the physical and natural environments in which human social dynamics are situated. This scientific understanding will improve situational awareness for Warfighters and analysts, improving efficacy of decision-making to achieve mission objectives.
