Biological Robustness in Complex Settings (BRICS)
Abstract
The Biological Robustness in Complex Settings (BRICS) program will leverage newly developed technologies to enable radical new approaches for engineering biology. This area will focus on the creation of enabling technologies that will facilitate the development and integration of fundamental tools and methods being explored under the BRICS program. Research within this area may focus on the development of tools for genetic engineering of traditionally intractable species and tools for high-resolution characterization of biological communities. Ultimately, this area seeks to integrate the fundamental component technologies developed under PE 0601101E, TRS-01 into a platform technology capable of engineering robust, stable, and safe communities for the prevention and treatment of disease. This program has basic research efforts funded in PE 0601101E, Project TRS-01.
