Age of Latent Fingerprints for Tracking Suspects
Abstract
This project is investigating the feasibility of using DNA or other chemicals in a latent fingerprint to determine the age of that particular print. It is known that DNA degrades at ambient conditions. This project is determining the time course for this degradation and evaluating whether it can be used to estimate when a suspect made that fingerprint. The objective of this work is to determine if DNA degradation can be correlated with exposure time to ambient conditions.
