TESTS OF NEW TYPE CLIPS TO REPLACE THE SPRING CLIP ON RETRACTABLE FUZING WIRES

Abstract

Twelve types of clips were flight tested during bombing trials of Vampire aircraft, and release sorties were carried out at 450 knots IAS and dive angles to 60 deg. With the exception of the double corkscrew clips, all opened on or after the release of the bombs, in some cases failing to retain the safety wire. The modified steel double corkscrew clip was considered a satisfactory replacement for the spring clip in general use on retractable fuzing wires.
