LIMIT ANALYSIS AND DESIGN

Abstract

The basic concepts are discussed of limit analysis and limit de sign of reinforced concrete beams and frames. Many of these problems can be treated geometrically in terms of the safe domain in load space. The procedure is illustrated by a typical frame example. The method is adequate whenever the plastic deformation of the structure can be described in terms of 2 elementary mechanisms. When there are 3 elementary mechanisms, a 3-dimensional load space must be used.
