Abstract

THE MATHEMATICAL ANALYSIS AND SOLUTION OF THE NATURAL FREQUENCIES AND NORMAL MODES OF VIBRATION FOR A COMPOUND ISOLATION MOUNTING SYSTEM BY MCGOLDRICK'S METHOD ARE DISCUSSED. THE SYSTEM CONSISTS OF AN ASSEMBLY SUPPORTED BY A SET OF ISOLATION MOUNTINGS CARRIED BY A CRADLE WHICH IS, IN TURN, SUPPORTED BY ANOTHER SET OF ISOLATION MOUNTINGS ATTACHED TO THE HULL OF A SHIP. THE SOLUTION FOR A SINGLE, RESILIENTLY MOUNTED, RIGID BODY IS PRESENTED AS A SPECIAL CASE OF THE TWOBODY SYSTEM
