Thermochemistry of Oxygen-Fluorine Bonding

Abstract

Effort was concentrated on design, fabrication, and procurement of experimental equipment requisite to synthesis of O - F compounds and compositional analysis of reaction products for thermochemical evaluation of synthesized materials. Reaction systems were constructed for synthesis and purification of NO2F, NO3F, and ClO4F. Synthesis of NO2F was accomplished directly from NO2 and F2. The synthesized material was analyzed for purity by infrared spectroscopy, mass spectroscopy, and by hydrolysis. The two latter techniques of analysis agree within one percent.
