PHONON-PHONON INTERACTION IN CRYSTALS

Abstract

The concept of parametric interactions in scattering processes of waves and quasi-particles is discussed. Some introductory remarks are made on interactions of optical phonons. Experimental work on the magnetostrictive excitation of microwave phonons in various materials is reported. The results, such as the generation of phonons in Si, are now reliably reproducible.
