Heavy Nuclides in Bomb Debris

Abstract

This report presents the results of the work of personnel of the Argonne National Laboratory, the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, and the University of California Radiation Laboratory on the heavy nuclides formed in the detonation of the Mike bomb of Operation Ivy. Many problems in the identification of the atomic number and mass number of the activities found in the debris have not yet been solved and, indeed, may well require another year of work on the debris before firm assignments are obtained. This report offers an interim statement of the conclusions which are available as a result of the primary work on the debris.
