THE CONTROL OF HEAVE AND PITCH OF A SEMISUBMARINE IN REGULAR ASTERN WAVES

Abstract

The purpose of this investigation was twofold. First, mathematical expressions were sought to represent the coupled heaving and pitching motions of a semisubmarine in astern regular waves. For the sake of simplicity, the linear theory was used; but corrections were made for some nonlinear effects. Since a complete analytical setup of the motions did not give results that corresponded well with experimental values, some correction factors, consistent with the theory, were introduced.
