TRACKING OF TROPICAL CYCLONES

Abstract

Description and evaluation of various types of data which are used in tracking tropical cyclones are presented. Information of this type should be helpful in the systematic use of the available data in tracking these storms on a current basis as well as in evaluating the accuracy of the storm tracks obtained by postanalysis. Some of the topics treated have some bearing on the problem of the ultimate limit of accuracy which can be expected in tracking tropical cyclones and in predicting their future motion. However, prediction techniques and procedures, as such, will not be discussed.
