ON CERTAIN UNSTEADY MOTIONS OF A COMPRESSIBLE FLUID

Abstract

Exact solutions of the equations for one-dimensional unsteady motion of a compressible fluid are considered in the case of plane waves and motions with cylindrical and spherical symmetry. The solutions are determined by simple procedures based on considerations of the theory of dimensions. In concrete examples it is easy to indicate the arrangements of the problems and the hypotheses leading to solutions of the type obtained. This general method is applied to both linear and nonlinear equations with partial derivatives in the most varied problems of physics and mechanics.
