Rapid Identification and Interpretation Techniques
Abstract
This report describes an experimental investigation of the feasibility of utilizing a rapid presentation technique to improve the target recognition performance of photo interpreters. The test imagery involved a wide variety of military targets presented at various image scales and image quality. A four day training course ad ministered to a group of experienced photo interpreters effected 50 percent reduction in time re quired to identify military targets with no loss in either accuracy or completeness. Data analysis also indicated significant interactions among interpreters measures and such display variables as image scale, target to background contrast, and image complexity. This report will be of particular interest to persons concerned with photo interpretation research and training.
