PROCEEDINGS OF THE SECOND DEFOLIATION CONFERENCE 5-6 AUGUST 1964

Abstract

The research program in chemical defoliation of the U. S. Army Biological Laboratories and its affiliated contractors and agencies is summarized in this Proceedings of the 1964 Defoliation Conference. Four phases of the effort are reviewed: (1) basic studies in the mechanisms of leaf abscission by contract and in-house research; (2) synthesis of new chemicals as candidate defoliants, desiccants, or herbicides; (3) screening and evaluation of candidate chemicals by in-house and contract programs; and (4) field testing of promising defoliants under in-house and USDA programs.
