NF-104A Aerospace Trainer Evaluation

Abstract

The NF-104A Aerospace Trainers were designed to provide students of the Aerospace Research Pilot School with experience in rocket engine operation, reaction control operation, and precise zoom climb profile flying. This report presents the results of the flight test evaluation which was conducted to determine whether the aircraft had acceptable flying qualities for this design mission. The results of the test program showed that successful utilization of these aircraft as Aerospace Trainers requires: (1) strict observance of limitations imposed on the aircraft; (2) intimate familiarization of flight characteristics of the aircraft, and mission profile; and (3) meticulous maintenance of the aircraft and its systems.
