TRANSITIONS FOR PERIODIC FILTERS

Abstract

This report presents the results of a one year program for improvement of transitions between conventional transmission lines and periodic filters suitable for use on high power radars. General studies of transitions, filter design, and coupled periodic circuits are described. These studies were applied to a variety of filter structures and resulted in: (1) a novel higher order mode helix filter of high power cyapacity; (2) a helix filter that operated satisfactorily in tests on an FPS-6 radar; and (3) a ladder filter with low loss and VSWR over a wide passband and high power capability. The validity of the general studies was demonstrated and their conclusions can be extended to several applications of a variety of periodic structures.
