HYDRODYNAMICS AND STABILITY AND CONTROL OF A TANDEM PROPELLER SUBMARINE: EQUIPMENT DESIGN FOR A TANDEM PROPELLER SUBMARINE FREE-RUNNING MODEL

Abstract

The report contains information on the design, installation, and interconnections of equipment used in the freerunning model test program. Emphasis is placed on describing those portions of the system designed and assembled by CAL for these specific tests and for which information is not elsewhere available. Where possible, reference is made to prior publications for descriptions of equipment which was supplied with the model (e. g., the propeller and blade actuator servomechanisms) or which was used in unmodified form for remote control demonstrations (e. g., the Conalog). Certain changes in the supplied equipment, as used in earlier captive tests of the model, were made for compatibility with units introduced into the system for free-running tests and these changes are noted where applicable.
