ON THE PROBLEM OF THE FOCAL CHARACTER OF SPRING-AND-SUMMER (TICK) ENCEPHALITIS

Abstract

The data that was obtained is of real significance for the study of the problem of the locality of tick encephalitis. The fact which is of inescapable interest is the detection of the tick encephalitis virus in the brains of wood-mice from the control area, where cases of encephalitis had not been observed. This fact once more demonstrates that the reason for the 'freedom' of such an area is the absence of contact of the local population with the source of the infection (perhaps because of the absence here of that tick- species which is prone to attack man, namely Ixodes persulcatus) or the existence of a natural immunity in the local population (SOLOV'YEV, 1944).
