INVESTIGATION OF SOLIDIFICATION OF HIGH STRENGTH STEEL CASTING UNDER SIMULATED PRODUCTION CONDITIONS

Abstract

The report represents a summary of research conducted on the effect of solidification variables on mechanical properties of high strength cast steel. A variety of different casting were poured and treated in various ways to study the effect of (1) thermal and nucleation variables on grain structure and microporosity, and (2) the effect of grain structure and microporosity on mechanical properties. A special microradiographic technique was developed to measure very small amounts of microporosity.
