Measurement and Analysis of Noise from Four Aircraft during Approach and Departure Operations (727, KC-135, 707-320B, and DC-9)

Abstract

The objective of this work was to measure, evaluate, and identify the noise levels along the flight track generated by 727, KC-135, 707-320B, and DC-9 aircraft. The aircraft were directed to operate in a wide variety of takeoff and approach procedures. The effort involved acquisition of acoustical, meteorological, aircraft tracking, and aircraft operational data. Microphones were located four feet above the ground in an array parallel to the flight track along the extended runway centerline up to 10 nautical miles from the runway threshold.
