Plastic Buckling

Abstract

A survey of plastic buckling is given. Emphasis is placed on post-buckling behavior and imperfection-sensitivity in the plastic range, although the extent to which bifurcation load predictions depend on the choice of plasticity theory is reviewed at some length. Behavior of discrete and continuous structures is introduced by way of several simple models and a general treatment is presented for the most commonly used theory of plates and shells. A number of examples are discussed.
