Development of a Pulse Modulated Ultrasonic Imaging System. Part I: General Description

Abstract

The development of an experimental, pulse modulated, ultrasonic imaging system is described. Details of the image tube and transducer plus a general account of the instrumentation are given. The system was designed to have a wide range of resettable pulse repetition rates, line rates, and frame rates, in addition to a variable pulse width. The proper application of pulse modulation is shown to have merit in reducing the interference effects associated with continuous wave systems.
