Documentation of Production: Allied Medical Publication 8 Planning Guide for the Estimation of Battle Casualties (Nuclear)

Abstract

In 1994, the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA) was tasked to assist OTSG in developing a new version of AMedP-8 "Planning Guide for the Estimation of Battle Casualties (Nuclear)." This task employed then-current modeling and simulation tools to estimate over time the numbers and types of patients, as a result of a nuclear weapon detonation. As part of the current task for OTSG, IDA has documented the efforts of 1994-2000 that produced AMedP-8 Nuclear. The documentation describes the Janus nuclear effects model and CHRNEM Combined injury model with regard to model inputs and assumptions; presents detailed descriptions of the tactical scenarios used in AMedP-8 Nuclear, includes exposure and performance capability data used to produce AMedP-8 Nuclear but not presented in that document; contains tables summarizing casualty scenarios from AMedP-8 Nuclear; and recommends areas for revision to be considered for future versions of AMedP-8 Nuclear.
