Domain Reuse

Abstract

The Fires Software Engineering Division has been moving and promotingdomain reuse for the last 20 years. We have an active on-going reuseeffort that has been used to benefit systems undergoing Acquisition, aswell as systems in sustainment. Over time, our reuse activities havematured and grown in order to address dynamic threats and meetmaintenance challenges on the systems we maintain and support forvarious PM offices. Reuse of Requirements, Design, Code, Test, andTraining artifacts is methodical and process driven. The Acquisitioncommunity faces unique challenges when employing reuse both fromexternal and internal program drivers. This presentation will attempt toconvey solutions and challenges to PEOs and PMs in this era ofconstrained resources, attempting to point out potential cost savings andcost avoidance opportunities.
