Research on ReBCO and MgB2 Wires and Cables at the University of Twente

Abstract

This is a report of the effect of transverse load and combined tensile/torsion stress on the current-carrying capability of REBCO (particularly Superpower SCS4050 tape) by experiments at 77K, and including detailed modeling work on the mechanical behaviour and its influence on critical properties. The predictive model is verified by experiments. Four cable types (CORC, stacked tape, Roebel, CICC) were subjected to magnetic fields and other tests and various measurements taken. The report includes mechanical performance of cables in strain, AC loss of signals, transport current loss, intrastrand resistance and current transfer length in multifilamentary Conductors, characterization of MgB2 wires, and development MgB2 high current cabled conductor for fusion.
