Pediatric Home Sleep Studies: A Prospective Study
Abstract
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) affects 1-5% of pediatric patients. Untreated pediatric OSA is associated with neurocognitive impairment, behavioral problems, and cardiopulmonary dysfunction. Clinical diagnosis lacks sensitivity and specificity. Laboratory polysomnography is expensive, not always available, and is inconvenient for patients. Therefore, 90% of children undergo adenotonsillectomy without confirmatory diagnostic testing. Ambulatory sleep monitoring for OSA may alleviate these issues.
