Localization Grid for Accurate Positioning Onboard a Carrier

Abstract

The objective of this project is to develop implementable solutions that achieve the required instantaneous position andorientation tracking accuracy of aircrafts onboard a deck with the radio frequency identification (RFID) technologies. RFIDtags covering the entire flight deck and hanger bay areas serve as anchors with known locations, whereas an aircraft, through multiple RFID reader antennas which are fixed on the aircraft, senses the relative position information with nearbyRFID tags and determines its own instantaneous position and orientation. We provide technical supports for the NAVAIR toperform experimental verification to assess the feasibility of the techniques we have developed in this project.
