Internet Geo-Location

Abstract

The geolocation system Alidade, developed with support from this research contract, is a passive IP geolocation system that is fundamentally different from all prior research systems since it computes predictions for the entire IP address space while absolutely refraining from issuing any measurement probes of its own, either before or after it is presented with the IP addresses. Although the system outputs (for each IP address) a point-based prediction for comparing its predictions with that of the other geolocation systems, Alidades geolocation prediction is a polygonal feasible region that represents all possible locations of the IP address.
