Post-Remediation Evaluation of EVO Treatment: How Can We Improve Performance

Abstract

Enhanced Reductive Dechlorination (ERD) with Emulsified Vegetable Oil (EVO) has been used at hundreds of Department of Defense (DoD) sites to remediate chlorinated solvents, chromate, uranium, perchlorate, and explosives. This report presents the results of detailed field, laboratory, and design evaluations at two sites (SA17 and OU2) treated with EVO and can be used to improve the performance of ERD with EVO at other sites. Major sections of the report are: (1) project scope and objectives; (2) SA17 assessment results; (3) OU2 assessment results; (4) conclusions and lessons learned; (5) conceptual model of ERD treatment with EVO; and (5) estimating base requirement for aquifer pH control.
