Demonstration Program for Low-Cost, High-Energy-Saving Dynamic Windows

Abstract

As an addition to previous related ESTCP contract, View proposes to demonstrate an innovative, pre-commercial product and installation process for dynamic windows, called Dynamic InFill. A Dynamic In-Fill system is one where a dual-pane insulated glass unit (IGU) is mounted to the inside of the existing window and frame, without removing the original windows(see figure 1A). This approach cuts the total cost of a dynamic window upgrade by 2x, while maintaining most of the energy-savings, peak-load reduction and life cycle benefits of a traditional dynamic window retrofit. In fact, the cost of a Dynamic In-Fill installation will be less than traditional window retrofits with standard low-e glass.
