Restoring Bladder Function by Spinal Cord Neuromodulation in SCI

Abstract

Enclosed is the annual progress report for our grant entitled, Restoring Bladder Function by Spinal Cord Neuromodulation in SCI (SC103209). Over the last year, we have integrated the information from the pilot study of five nave subjects to determine the optimal magnetic stimulating parameters for restoring bladder function in spinally-injured patients (Tasks 1-3). We have used these established parameters to begin a Triple Blind Randomized Control Trial (Task 4). Seven participants have completed the clinical trial and we currently have three active participants, with two others who meet the criteria and are awaiting baseline urodynamics testing to begin. Our goal is to enroll 12 total participants through our clinical trial to validate our established optimal parameters of magnetic stimulation to restore bladder function in people with spinal cord injury (SCI). We believe this study will yield necessary information to enable therapies which non-invasively restore bladder function in patients with SCI and will make a dramatic impact on the lives of those living with SCI.
