Analysis of Shipboard and Shoreside Regulated Garbage Management Processes to Ensure Efficient Compliance with U.S. Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Regulations

Abstract

This technical report summarizes the results of the Navy Environmental Sustainability Development to Integration (NESDI) Program Project Number 533 Analysis of Shipboard and Shoreside Regulated Garbage Management Processes to Ensure Efficient Compliance with U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) regulations. NSWCCD Code 632 collaborated with the Fleet, shoreside personnel, and other Navy commands to develop a baseline of RG management practices, a standardized best management practices document and training slides that are applicable to all U.S. homeports, and identified multiple delivery methods for the best practices information. A Fleet evaluation of the best practices document and slides was conducted and although the evaluation period was too short to gauge the full impact of the best practices information and delivery methods, there were signs that the information was reaching the ships and being followed to a limited degree.
