U.S. Army Expansion, 1961-62

Abstract

The attached historical monograph is a revised version of the earlier "U.S. Army Expansion and Readiness, 1961-1962, "which was distributed to the Department of the Army staff agencies in September 1962. The original version was prepared at the direction of the Chief of Staff by four historians of this office: Dr. Robert W, Coakley, Mr, Walter G. Hermes, Lt. Col. James F. Schnabel, and Dr. Earl F. Ziemke. The draft monograph received an intensive internal review in OCMH and many valuable comments were received from DA staff reviewing agencies. These comments, suggestions, and criticisms have been taken into consideration in the enclosed revision, prepared by Mr. Walter G. Hermes. In addition, some material and information that was unavailable in September has been incorporated. The Office of the Chief of Military History would welcome further critical comment in the event that errors are still found in the manuscript.
