Abstract

Military control of JAPAN is exercised by the Supreme Commander for the Allied Powers (SCAP) by employing that portion of the United States Forces of the Far East Command (FEC) in JAPAN and the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF). The Allied Occupation Forces will occupy strategic areas and governmental centers in JAPAN proper to insure enforcement of the terms of surrender, the maintenance of law and order, the abolition of militarism and ultra-nationalism, control over Japan's capacity to make war and the strengthening of democratic tendencies and processes in government and economic and social institutions.
