Cyber Risk to Mission Case Study: Norsk Hydro

Abstract

In March 2019, Norsk Hydro, one of the worlds largest aluminum suppliers fell victim to a cyberattack. The cyberattack deployed LockerGoga ransomware across the company's corporate enterprise and control system networks. While the ransomware attack did not directly affect control systems, the Norsk Hydro incident still serves as a case study for the impact a ransomware attack can have on industrial operations given their reliance on IT systems.
