Morphological Quantification of Shear Bands Using ImageJ

Abstract

Morphological features of shear bands are computed using methods available within the public-domain image-processing program, ImageJ. Step-by-step instructions are provided for determining the total shear band area, shear band network metrics (including branch length and junction data), and the distribution of shear band thickness values. A method is presented for reducing the background noise that may exist in images rendered from either computational methods or experimental measurements.
