Optimum Design Criterion for Simultaneous-Lobing Antennas

Abstract

An investigation is conducted to determine optimum illumination conditions for a simultaneous-lobing antenna consisting of a circular paraboloidal reflector together with a four-horn feed. The E- and H-plane sum and difference patterns of the four-horn feed are calculated as functions of horn size for the favorable case where the apertures of the horns are square and contiguous. The calculated patterns are compared with measured patterns and found to be very good agreement.
