AI-Human Collaborative Cyber-Physical Engineering And Learning (ACCEL) Environment
Abstract
Current state-of-the-art design methodologies for cyber-physical systems (CPS) have several limitations, especially for handling complex systems consisting of many sub-modules from different domains. Designer teams for CPS typically consist of subject matter experts (SMEs) with narrow expertise in each other domain (e.g., computer-aided design (CAD), electrical systems, and control systems). A fundamental limitation of past approaches is that the knowledge is siloed and is hard to transfer to another design team such that they benefit from past collective expertise. Central to the approach taken on this effort is the focus on humans and enabling them to think about high-level design ideas, thus freeing them from highly intensive tasks requiring specialized expertise that can be outsourced to an artificial intelligence (AI) Co-Designer.
