A Weibull Model to Estimate Residual and Critical Velocities for Target Penetrations

Abstract

A procedure based on the versatile three-parameter Weibull Distribution function is used to estimate the relationship between the striking velocity and the residual velocity of a projectile penetrating some target material. Nonlinear estimation procedures are used to fit this model to experimental data. A comparison of this model and a hyperbolic model using typical data is presented. A FORTRAN program for implementation of the techniques is included.
