The Role of an Independent Software Validation Agency.

Abstract

New systems containing software development will continue to increase the Department of Defense investment in software. The cost of the software programs will continue to increase in relationship to the cost of hardware components of a system as more complex systems are developed in the future. This importance is due primarily to the cost of software test and evaluation. The testing phase of computer program design and development represents 50 percent or more of the total computer software costs. This report evaluates the role of an independent test agency and provides an updated and realistic set of tasks for consideration by these agencies. (Author)
