Evaluation of Army Representation.

Abstract

A conceptual framework and functional definition of Army representation are developed from data gathered in an extensive review of related literature. Based on this information, a Convergence/Divergence Model is constructed--using the national policy objectives of military effectiveness, social equity, and political legitimacy as standard criteria of representation. Quantitative data on Army representation are compiled from several existing sources--including a longitudinal (2 1/2 year) reference on the All-Volunteer experience. Standard and new statistical methods are employed to examine the demographic, socioeconomic, quality, and attitudinal measures of Army representation, according to guidelines established in the conceptual model.
