EPA Laser Flame Analyzer System.

Abstract

An electro-optical laser flame analyzer system specifically designed for EPA applications is described. Preliminary studies to establish design criteria included 1) studies of radiation levels at a number of discrete wavelengths corresponding to common laser wavelengths (that is, HeNe, argon ion, and ruby); 2) determination of fringe quality by means of an imaging system and an acoustically driven probe wire; 3) estimates of particle arrival rates for both oil and gas fired flames; and 4) effect of flame turbulence on LV signals. The EPS laser flame analyzer system consists of a specially adapted two-component laser velocimeter. Provisions were made to include, upon completion of development, both interferometric particle sizing and a third component of velocity.
