Specification of Geosynchronous Plasma Environment.

Abstract

Data from UCSD plasma instruments on the ATS 5 and 6 satellites has been studied to specify the geosynchronous plasma environment as it affects electrostatic charging of spacecraft. The emphasis of the initial study has been primarily to service the needs of the design engineer; while simultaneously establishing the context in which a more general model could be developed. The report includes an environmental specification plus a review of geosynchronous plasma and wave phenomena. (Author)
