Measurements of Noise, Signal, and Signal-Plus-Noise Spectra Through a 5-Bit-Plus-Sign A/D Converter

Abstract

This report presents the spectra of various quantized input signals obtained by laboratory measurement at the output of a 5-bit-plus-sign analog-to- digital (A/D) converter. The results demonstrate the spectral dynamic range capability for single and multitonal inputs, with and without injected band- limited noise. Optimum input level adjustment, that is, A/D converter biasing, is determined as a function of input signal type. These measurements are verified in theory, wherever possible.
