Recess Fasteners

Abstract

This report covers four tasks. A recess fastener test method is developed and the results of tests showing the affect of parameters and comparative recess performance are reported. The results of an investigation into the factors affecting removal torque are reported. An analytical method for determining fastener tensile strength as a function of recess depth is described. Finally, the results of a field data gathering effort to measure torque, end load, and tool angle during installation and removal of fasteners are detailed.
