Laser-Based Remote Measurement of Large Biaxial Deflections.

Abstract

A laser-based displacement measurement package is being developed as a tool for continuous, remote monitoring of the dynamic response of slender, very low frequency (VLF) antenna towers. The displacement monitor is designed for use where instrumentation cables are prohibitive due to intense electric fields. The system has been tested on antenna towers 380 meters in height to obtain biaxial displacement with a single sensor. Examples of results are presented with comparisons of results from velocity gages and accelerometers. (Author)
