The Measured Characteristics of Traffic in the UCL Node of the ARPA Network.

Abstract

A novel approach to network traffic analysis is presented. Information on the low-level line traffic is recorded on a magnetic tape. Offline analysis of this data enables us to reconstruct high-level protocols in use in the ARPANET. Accurate timings of the low level traffic allows us to do detailed analysis of performance experienced by network users. (Author)
