The Use of Consensus in Analytical Safety.

Abstract

Sometimes hard, quotable data is not available for the purpose of reliability analysis. Some of the reasons for non-availability of data are: (a) Field data is improperly or not recorded at all; (b) Data is of a proprietary nature and cannot be released; (c) Newness of concept or design prevents one from having a recorded history of field experience; and (d) Failures occur with such a low frequency that many years (decades) are required to obtain significant failure data.
