Scatter Properties of MLD Mirrors.

Abstract

A study and development of data processing techniques for spatial scatter intensity data from a MLD mirror was undertaken. Several processing schemes were investigated with the result that processing the data so as to produce a true and scaled polar plot of the scatter field seems to be the optimum way of displaying the information. Studies of the scatter field of a particular MLD mirror did not support the notion that lobes are to be found in the pattern. On the contrary, the scatter field is more accurately described as a random spatial function. In addition, studies of the processed data patterns suggests that a possible measure of mirror quality may be had by direct comparison of its forward and back scatter characteristics. (Author)
