Inequalities and Approximation with Applications to VSTOL Aircraft,

Abstract

A class of inequalities are discussed that are related to the following topics: (1) error estimates for variational inequality and optimal control approximation; (2) stability for mathematical programs; and (3) solution regularity for optimal control problems. These results are used to study the error in the semidual method for approximating the solution to optimal control problems. The application of the semidual to optimize VSTOL flight trajectories is discussed. (Author)
